How the Pymetrics easy or hard game works
The easy task is five presses in three seconds and pays $1.
The hard task is sixty presses in twelve seconds and pays between $1.35 and $4.35.
Before each trial you are told the chance it pays out. That chance applies whichever task you pick.
Choose within five seconds or one is chosen for you at random.
Finish the presses in time and the chance is rolled. You either get the money or you get nothing.
Miss the presses and you get nothing, whatever the odds were.
The clock never stops, so there is no set number of trials. Taking hard ones means playing fewer.
What the easy or hard game measures
How often you took the hard task, and above all the amount at which you started taking it. It also watches whether the stated odds moved you, which is a separate thing about you than effort is, and whether you finished the hard tasks you took on.

It pays more per trial and not necessarily more per minute, which is the thing that actually runs out. A hard trial takes about twice as long as an easy one from choice to outcome, so it only pays better once the amount is roughly above $2.10. Six of the eight amounts on offer are above that. There is still no correct answer here, because employers are not scoring the money.
No, and this is the part almost everyone gets wrong. The percentage belongs to the trial, not to the task you choose. A 12 percent trial is 12 percent either way, so it multiplies both options equally and drops out of the comparison completely. If you find yourself taking hard tasks when the odds look good and easy ones when they look bad, that is a real preference about risk. It just is not a way to earn more.
Yes. It is five a second held for twelve seconds, which is fast but well inside what a hand does. Taking on hard tasks and then missing the count is its own signal though, because you spend the full twelve seconds and get nothing for them.
No, that is the game. Completing the presses only earns you the roll. On a 50 percent trial you will finish and get nothing about half the time. It is deliberately shown to you rather than hidden, because a player who does not understand that has not understood the game.
One is picked for you at random and the game says so. It is a documented rule of the real assessment, not a penalty this site added. Those trials are left out when working out the amount you start saying yes at, because the choice was not yours.
The lab task it comes from does. It has you use your dominant index finger for the easy task and your non dominant little finger for the hard one, which is where most of the difficulty gap came from originally. Pymetrics dropped that: its instructions just say hit the spacebar, and the gap comes from five presses in three seconds against sixty in twelve. This version works the same way, with a button as well so it plays on a phone.
